God's Promise vs. Human Reasoning
1. Abraham and Sarah Looked at Their Circumstances Instead of God's Promise
God promised Abraham that He would give him descendants.
However, after many years passed without a child, Abraham and Sarah began to focus on their circumstances rather than God's promise.
Sarah suggested that Abraham have a child through her servant Hagar, and Abraham agreed. As a result, Ishmael was born.
2. God's Thoughts Are Different from Human Thoughts
God already had a plan to fulfill His promise.
Abraham and Sarah chose what seemed reasonable in their own eyes.
What appears impossible to us is not impossible for God.
Faith means trusting God's Word more than our own understanding.
3. Faith Is Revealed When God's Word and Reality Seem to Conflict
Jesus told Mary and Martha, "This sickness is not unto death," yet Lazarus became sicker and eventually died.
In the same way, we often face situations where God's Word and our circumstances seem to say different things.
True faith holds on to God's Word even when circumstances suggest otherwise.
4. Faith Requires Denying Our Own Thoughts
People naturally accept God's Word when it agrees with their own thinking.
However, Jesus said, "Let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me."
Spiritual growth begins when we set aside our own reasoning and trust what God has said.
5. Practical Lessons for Our Lives
God's promises do not change because circumstances change.
We must trust God's Word more than what we see with our eyes.
Faith grows when we choose God's promise over our own understanding.
We should learn from Abraham's mistake and patiently wait for God's timing instead of trying to fulfill God's promises through human effort.
