When they offered sacrifices in the Old Testament, the sins that were recorded on the horns of the altar were covered by the blood of the lamb. That is showing that all the record of our sins was erased. It is talking about the mercy seat in heaven. There are several articles in the temple in heaven, and the center is the ark of the covenant in the Most Holy Place. The center of the ark is the mercy seat. Because the mercy seat is in God’s heart, man can now freely meet with God.
God is showing us Jesus Christ through the mercy seat. We cannot stand confidently before God on our own, no matter what method we use. But we can meet God through the mercy seat. It is because the blood of Jesus Christ, who has become our mercy seat, has forgiven perfectly all our sins. Our sins are not forgiven to some extent, but they are completely forgiven.
1 John 1:7 “the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
Sin is not washed by confession. The blood of Jesus Christ washes our sins.
1 John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
The father in Luke 15 forgave all the sins of the prodigal son and waited for him. The father forgave all our sins, but we see that the prodigal son felt guilty about his sins, so he came to his father and confessed his sins. But the sins of the prodigal son were not washed because he confessed his sins before the father. They were already washed in the heart of the father. Our sins are also not washed by confession before God. God’s son, Jesus Christ, has cleansed us from all sin.
The blood of Jesus has already cleansed all our sins, regardless of whether we confess them or not. Our sins are not washed by confession. We must believe that they are already washed on the cross. We have the concept of time. But for God, there is no present, past, or future.
David committed sins before Jesus came. But he believed that Jesus would come in the future and that the blood of Jesus Christ washed his sins, so he was forgiven of his sins. The blood that Jesus shed on the cross is eternal; there is no past, present, or future in front of that blood. Only the present exists. So no matter what time period, the sins of the past, the sins of the present, the sins of the future, they were all resolved on the cross.
The center of the tabernacle is the ark of the covenant, and the center of the ark is the mercy seat. The mercy seat points right to Jesus Christ. Jesus fulfilled eternal redemption through his death on the cross. Jesus has become our sin offering and peace offering and forgave our sins. He made peace between us and God. If we had even a little sin remaining, there would never be reconciliation with God. But now the blood of Jesus Christ has perfectly washed us, so we cannot help but be reconciled with God.
God said he will meet us at the mercy seat. God wants to meet us freely. No matter what sin we have committed, no matter how filthy or dirty of a human we are, we have Jesus who has become our mercy seat, so we lack nothing to stand before God. Jesus has made us lacking in nothing to stand before God.
Even though the father had forgiven his son’s sins, the prodigal son felt guilty about his sins because he did not know his father had forgiven them. The moment he came to his father and realized his father’s heart, he could live freely with his father. God wants us to become people who have received the forgiveness of sins, who are bold, and who come freely to God.
