When people go out before God to give themselves as an offering, people want to take out the parts that are disgusting, evil, and filthy. And most have the heart to keep alive the things they think they are good at, and the things they consider clean, good, or nice. The reason Saul was cursed was because even though he wiped out the worthless things and trivial things, he kept alive those things that were good or precious in his eyes.
In our lives as well, it is not burdensome for us to give our filthy and disgusting self or our worthless and trivial things as an offering to God. But it is burdensome for us to give the things that are beautiful or precious to us. God did not kill Jesus on the cross because he was worthless or useless. Jesus was the most precious son of God, who was worthy of God’s acceptance, and he was the only servant that followed his will. He came to earth as the prophet who accomplished God’s will the best.
God sent his most cherished son, Jesus Christ, who fulfilled his will beautifully, to be the offering for our sins. So the thoughts we consider to be right, our opinions, experiences, knowledge, goodness, all these things must be burned with not a single speck remaining for God to receive us with joy.
