The people in the Old Testament were not able to find a trace of the countless lambs they had sacrificed on the altar. In the same way, we cannot find any of Jesus Christ’s thoughts or his own will when he died on the cross. All his will had disappeared; he only followed the will of God. He did this to fulfill the will of God to save us.
No matter what kind of offering was given at the altar, whether it was of lambs or goats or oxen, none of the offerings were given according to the will of the animals. No matter how much the ox wanted to live, he was totally ignored. No matter how strong or beautiful the ox was, according to the will of God, he had to shed its blood, die, burn, and become ashes in order to become an offering that God would approve of.
At the altar, we cannot see the shape of the goat or ox or sheep that was sacrificed according to the will of God. Only their ashes remained. In the same way, Jesus Christ followed the will of God and became the perfect sacrificial offering. Now for us to be given as a living sacrifice to God, all our will, pleasures, habits, hobbies, and more – these things must all be burned. To become the precious offering that God is pleased with, only the will of God must stand in our hearts.
