When we approach the altar, we can only see the lamb that was completely sacrificed according to the will of God and the blood of the lamb that was poured at the bottom of the altar. Jesus Christ suffered on the cross for us and only his blood covers our sins and the record of our sins. And his blood remains as the clear evidence that our sins have been forgiven. That blood flows with the promise that God happily accepts us.
The high priests in the time of the Old Testament only entered the Most Holy Place once a year, and they had to go in with blood on their hands. If there was no blood on their hands, they would die as soon as they enter the Most Holy Place. To live, the high priest had to bring the blood of the lamb that had died and shed its blood when he went into the Most Holy Place. In the same way, Jesus Christ shed his blood to save us. We gain courage to go out to God as we look on the pools of blood around the altar and the blood on top of the horns.
God cannot accept us if the lamb does not die, shed its blood, and is burned to ashes. But God accepts us because the lamb sacrificed itself for us, shed its blood for us, and was burned until nothing remained.
