What would happen if the lampstand had no base? It would be so difficult and painful for the branches or shaft to try to stand on its own. But if the base is established, then the shaft and branches just stand. Just like that, we put Jesus Christ as our base and we come from Christ, so there is no need for us to try to stand on our own. Jesus Christ just makes our faith stand strong when we meditate on him.
Proverbs 24:16 “For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again.”
A righteous man is not someone who does not commit sin. When it says “righteous man,” it is talking about the one whose sins have been washed through Jesus Christ. The righteous man stands strong because he is connected to Jesus Christ, even if he does not try to stand. Things working out because of the Lord is the life of a Christian.
The people who are not sure about their relationship with Christ must work hard and labor to not fall. But the ones whose base is Christ, Christ makes them stand even if they stay still. We stand strong because of Christ, so we can stand before him with no shame.
