God’s heart of wanting to have fellowship with man is hidden in the table of showbread in the tabernacle. God is not someone we have to fear. God wants to eat with us, like father and son.
David ran away from Saul, and he was tired, so the priest gave him the bread and he gained new strength. Just like what David went through, we are also bound to go through various complicated and tiring things in our lives. That is when we come to God by eating the bread, gain strength, and live a new life. When we meditate on Jesus Christ and have fellowship with the Lord, our tired and exhausted hearts gain new strength to live in this difficult world.
Saul killed Ahimelech the priest and his whole family because he gave David the bread. This represents Jesus Christ, who gave us the bread and cup of life through his body which was destroyed for us. Through his sacrifice, we gain strength to live in this world.
