It says the altar is made of acacia wood. Not only the altar of burnt offering, but the table of showbread, the incense altar, the ark of the covenant, the boards that formed the tabernacle were all made of acacia wood. Acacia wood is from the acacia tree. Why did God tell them to make the altar of burnt offering, the table of showbread, the ark of the covenant, etc. out of acacia wood?
The acacia tree is not a straight or beautiful, not an elegant or high-class tree.
The altar in the tabernacle is also showing Jesus Christ. This Jesus Christ, like the acacia tree, does not have any beauty or any part worth looking at, according to humanly ways and in our eyes.
Isaiah 53:1-2 “Who hath believed our report? And to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.”
When the Lord Jesus, the son of God, came to earth, he came into a position that was lower than everyone. Like the acacia tree, when people looked at him, there was nothing worth looking at, and his outer appearance was not beautiful. He came into a position that people were embarrassed about, a position so low you could not describe it.
