After people who had sinned put their hands on the lamb and their sins were forgiven through the death of the lamb, lastly, the priests had to erase their sins. So by putting the blood of the lamb on the horns of the altar, God made the sins completely invisible to us and to him. The reason why Adonijah and Joab died was because they should have put the blood of the sin offering to cover their sins that were recorded on the horns of the altar, but they just used their hands to try to cover their sins.

Jeremiah 17:1 “The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, and with the point of a diamond: it is graven upon the table of their heart, and upon the horns of your altars”

If you look at these words, it says the sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron which has the point of a diamond, and that it is recorded on the table of our hearts. It means that when we sin, the sin becomes a problem for us, but it also blocks us and God, so it becomes a problem for God. For God, the sins are written on the horns of the altar, and it is written on the table of our hearts.
