The altar shows the cross of Christ. We can discover Jesus Christ at the altar. In particular, before he died on the cross, this is what he prayed in the garden of Gethsemane.
“Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” (Luke 22:42)
If the Lord had followed the desires or will of his flesh before he died on the cross, then he would not have died on the cross and he would have taken another way.
If we look at the footsteps that man has taken, we can see that he followed after his own habits and attitude, and the things that he liked. But when we look at Jesus Christ who was nailed to the cross, we cannot find what he wanted, because he was like the lamb who was burned until everything was gone and not a trace was left. The only thing we can find is that he fulfilled the will of God.
