True spiritual life is not you trying to do well or looking at yourself. It is looking up to Jesus Christ, who shed his blood on the cross and died for us. The women who gathered at the door of the tabernacle gave up their mirrors, which they had used to see how they looked. Those mirrors were melted and became the bronze laver. In the same way, now we must close our eyes to look at ourselves and we must look to the Lord who has perfected us. We must see our image which is made perfect and has been changed into the form of Jesus Christ.
The mirrors of the women who gathered at the door of the tabernacle were given to God, so they could no longer look at themselves. The Bible is telling us to not look at ourselves but to look up to Jesus Christ who has changed us and made us different.
Joseph was a slave in Egypt and locked in prison. But his heart was always looking at the promise of God who changed him into the governor of Egypt. David was being hunted by Saul, but he always saw he would become the king according to the promise of God. In the same way, do not look at your disgraceful and weak flesh, but we must see that we will change to be like Jesus Christ in the future. Putting your hope there is the true spiritual life of a Christian.
